Mary, Mother of Martyrs Parish

Folk Choir

The St. Stephen Folk Choir is a contemporary ensemble that has been serving the parish for over 55 years and is the oldest continuously operating folk choir in the archdiocese of Chicago. The choir sings at the 10 a.m. liturgy every Sunday and members also participate at other major feasts and holydays throughout the year. Accompanied by guitar (and other instruments when available), the choir sings a variety of music -- praise and worship, traditional, folk and gospel. Parishioners are invited to join as singers and instrumentalists. The choir is open to everyone of high school age or older. Reading music and/or professional training are not required – only a willingness to learn new music and sing praise to the Lord. Rehearsals are Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. in the church music room. Anyone interested in joining should contact the parish office or talk to any choir member after Sunday Mass.
